Hey Sheep, being the resident Uberguy, how does this sound to you?

The guy is a killer player.
that's a tough clip to judge... sounds cool (he's great!) but the room is influencing it quite a bit. hard to say.

check this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2_5fh5DdsM

the signal chain is pretty similar to my black strat (JB) -> v30 -> sm57

going by that, the pedal has a pretty familiar sound to me but the bass isn't the same and the gain knob doesn't have the same range (the amp's gain knob seems to only really function between about 8 and 11 o'clock, less and it's off - more and it's hard to discern the change beyond just noise floor raising) - also, the pedal is missing the most important control on the amp - the presence knob. that thing is amazing - it goes from scoop to mid boost, sort of... really awesome. also, the lows from the amp are totally ridiculous (not always in a good way). the pedal sounds about right in the mid to upper mids though!

summary: I think I could set up the amp to sound like that pedal but not the other way around, given other amp settings.
I hear what you mean about the bass.  But he doesn't seem to have much bass out of the amp on the bypass setting, so i think the pedal is limited by that.  Not the greatest miking on either clip.  However both clips make me want to try it, lol!

Shame about the presence, but think that's usually associated with the power section, so almost makes sense that it's not there.  LOL I can rationalize almost anything right now...

What I hear in the clip i posted that i love is such amazing note clarity.  Think part of that might also be that the mike is picking up his picking hand as well, but still...  those chords ring out so nicely.

Is he running it through the Dual Rectifier? I never knew they were known to be pedal (drive pedal) friendly. Interesting.

FWIW - not trying to pimp the Red xtc, but I've read more than once that it actually (oddly) sports more gain than the Uber (teh pedalz ;) ).
yeah, I think it sounds cool! I'd be interested if I didn't have the amp.

even in the hands of the guy in the second vid it had some useable sounds going on, despite his efforts. ;)
D, the guy in the first vid Paul put up is playing through a Mesa Express 5/50 1x12 open back combo, not the dual rec stack you see behind him.
Actually a 5:25 Express...

Yeah D, I hear more gain in the red, but it's of course got a completely different character which is very cool, but different than what the Uber does.  Lowered tunings and 7 strings etc just tend to go to mush with high levels of gain.

I want all 3.  LOL :)

Paul
oops. I knew that.  LOL   5:25
