thoughts? Convincing? Turn your (insert your amp here) into a Recto?
Looks (and sounds) like a Dr. Boogie clone?
Hmm maybe not. Adding this one to the list to build, it's using 3 dual op amps for gain where the dr. boogie uses jfet gain stages. 4580s instead of the standard 4558s for higher current amplification with less noise... looks like a smart circuit.
I don't know man. Every time I've tried those 'Boogies in a box', I've not been convinced (and I've owned a Toneczar Openhaus; the guy behind Toneczar told me in a TGP message it is based on the Boogie). Bottom seems a little too compressed and weird on the articulations on this one, and not in a good way. A little better with the boost though.
I've been more impressed with the POD HD Treadplate model, turn off the cab sims, and run into the effects return of an amp (did it with a Classic 30). As close to the real thing as I've heard (haven't tried the AxeFX or 11-Rack though) out of something that wasn't.
I agree in principle. The main idea behind every Boogie clone is to map out some version of a boogie preamp section, replacing the tube diodes with silicon diodes. While this does approximate the preamp section, the preamp section is only a part of the sound. It's the power amp section of a tube amp that really matters to me. It's always going to be imperfect. The Wampler looks a little more interesting because the circuit looks less like a boogie circuit than other clones, and more like he attempted to tune it by ear. However, I never listen to a pedal in the hopes of it sounding like an amp... no matter what it's called.
