oooooh

grats!!

I'd demand clips - but I know better ;)

seriously, grats! hope you have lots of fun with it!
There are clips, but there in the same thread with the nude pics of Howie's wife.  ;) ;D
Did you all lose your passwords?   :D :D

Sheep, this may not be a super boutique amp.  But it seems to cover some ground and it sounded pretty good.  I'll provide more info after I've got it home (should be here Friday) and tested it more.

And, I will get the recording PC put together over the holidays, because mom is due out of the hospital on Saturday, so I finally won't be spending every evening there...
How many others think Howie should send the amp to Sheep for a real test (and clips!)???  :D 8-)
boutique or not... variable wattage and output tube blending sounds pretty cool!
Let's be real Howie....you ain't gonna record shit.  Just send me the amp and I'll get a cab.....I'll record it for you.

Besides we want to hear the AMP not 15 fucking distortion boxes stuffed in it's front end! ;D ;D
He's down to just 15??!  :-?
WOW !! Congrats !!!  :)
congrats Howie, that looks to be a nice amp.
Looks like a great amp - you have me GASing

Like the features.
Very cool Howie-san!! :)
Damn, that looks like a nice amp, I just looked it up on the egnator site, they had a couple http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2uUYm1z5C2k sounded crazy.
Congrats Howie, wear the cap when your playing it ;D
woot!  clips!  I mean pics!  oh forget it...
well boys, it got here today.  I got home about 9:00 from the hospital and by the time I got it unboxed and into the music room, I had about 10 minutes with it at "moderate volume."  I worked my way up the gain scale, knowing I didn't have much time.  When I hit the half way point on the gain, Amy came in and said she was going to bed.   ::)   I turned it down and turned the gain up to 3/4 and played for about 30 minutes, messing with the tube mix, watts control, and EQ.  Up until the last 15 minutes, it was Wolfie plugged straight into the amp.  Then I had to plug in the pedal board, but all I turned on was the Choral Flanger and a little bit of Tone Press.  Oh, and all this was with the 1x12 Greenback cab.

It's way too early to tell everything, but my initial impression is off the charts good. I don't need a lot of watts other than the one time a year I try to compete with Matthew F Bender at VolumeStock.  HAHAHAHA  So quality and more features and less watts is perfect for me.  The cleans sound great and there IS a difference between the two tube types and clear difference as you blend them.  VERY COOL!  The gain sounds great.  So far it sounds boutique quality.  Well... it sounds like an Egnator!  Nuff said!  I need more time obviously, to experiment with different gain levels vs tube blend vs watts control at different volume levels, but so far, this thing is awesome.  If I feel a month from now, like I do right now, I'll be ecstatic over this purchase.  I sold my C30 and one pedal and got more than enough for the amp.

Oh, and although heavier, this thing is SMALLER than my Valve Jr!!!!

SO FAR, SO GOOD!
Great news Howie. I am glad you like your purchase.

Thanks for the review. I am interested in hearing what the thing sounds like. The pictures on their site and the amp manual make the thing look very interesting.
Thanks for making me miss my Egnater...  :'(
I got about 30 minutes with it cranked up pretty good yesterday.  All with the Wolfie but this time the Eminence Governor.  Everything I initially said was pretty much the same at volume.  This thing sounds good cranked up.  Interestingly, it is voiced so well, that I left B/M/T knobs near 12:00 most of the time.  I never strayed past 1:00 except to test, or to just try a scoop, or a fat middy sound.  I can do both easily.  Very nice!

Last night, I got about 30 minutes with the strat.  Everything said so far still applies.  I could get nice sparkly strat tones, spanky blues tones, singing smooth neck pickup tones and (remember my strat has the Vintage Noiseless and the S1 switching) everything from that to classic rock and hard rock and even old school metal tones with the gain and EQ set to taste.  I broke out the fuzz and tried some of that, both with the amp set clean, and with it set to mild breakup, and then kind of medium breakup.  It took the fuzz with flying colors.

I've tested these things in this order for a reason.... now I fully expect that in my next louder session, when I break out the PRS, I will be blown away. That guitar is SO versatile and sounds so good at so many tones.  I think it's going to KILL with the Rebel 20.   I'll let you know.   (also noting, for variety of tones, I still have 3 guitars and two other types of speaker that haven't even been tried yet).  For $510 shipped, this thing covers some serious ground and does it very well!
DreamTheaterRules — Dec 22, 2008For $510 shipped.

Where did you get it for $510 shipped? I want one.
Believe it or not, I did not get it at guitar center.  My guy there, who hooks me up on EVERYTHING said they were selling them as fast as they could get them, and that the 10% off coupon I had was the best he could do "unless I wanted to wait a while til sales cooled down on them."  With that 10% off, I'd have had to pay tax too so it would have been right back up close to retail price, tax included.

Musicians Friend had a 15% off sale, plus there's no tax.  So it was like $509.75 delivered to my door.  They are having another one now.  I can forward the flyer to your e-mail if you don't have it.

Also, I've had about 3 more good sessions with it at moderate volume this week.  At first, I was having trouble matching the FABULOUS clean tones I get from my High Octane.  I even convinced myself that it was not fair to compare it to a hand wired, turret board, boutique parts, class A and no frills (which mess with tone!) amp.  But the tone controls on the High Octane are subtle.  Once I started really twisting the dials, I was able to get clean tone out of the Rebel that were ALMOST as good as they High Octane.  And that itself is impressive.

The gain of the two amps is a bit different.  The Rebel leans towards smoother gain, while the High Octane is like a hot rodded Marshall, so it's more crunchy.  Plus it has the advantage of being a class A amp which adds the the harmonic complexity.  That said, the Rebel again can sound almost like it except a bit smoother, less crunchy.

Given that the tone controls do a lot more on the Rebel, it can cover a lot more range tonally.  It's also push/pull and 20 watts, so clean or dirty it can get louder, and with tighter bottom end at volume.

This may not be the best amp in the world, but if 20 watts is enough for you and you don't REQUIRE a channel switcher or internal reverb, you need to check one of these out.  In it's price range, its easily the best I've heard.  There are some guys at TGP whining for a combo, but I prefer it as is.  I have 3 1x12s and I just switch speakers depending on what sound I want, or when I'm really rocking I chain two of them together.

I'm digging the Rebel.
WOW! Niiiiiiiice amp bro!! Is Egnater the "Epiphone" to Bogner? Sure looks like one. Anywhoo, nice score man, glad to hear it working for ya!

Hey Chris,    It is a nice looking amp, but I don't think you get any idea how small it is until you see a nice picture of it with something else in the pic for reference.  Even sitting on my 1x12 cab, the cab makes it look tiny.  But it packs a nice little punch.   I'm really happy with the purchase.

I know several that think his amps are just as good.  The one I had to sell (back to the original owner actually) absolutely ripped.
You guys should see the two Fender amps the other guitar player in my band scored, AWESOME!! Here is one... http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Pro-Junior-Combo-Amp?sku=480511 this little thing sings! Together with this one... http://www.blueguitarmusic.com/images/Inventory%20Pics/77VibroChamp.jpg !!! Both are tube amps, the Pro Jr is a re-issue but the silverface is all original. It's not the one in the pic, but it's exactly like it, just a little rougher. He traded an old home stereo reciver with tube power for both amps! The Pro Jr was in excellent condition but the silverface needs some tlc.

So then it's NOT a Bogner? I've heard really good things about them.

I bought one from Musicians Friend a while back and sent it back. It had this annoying buzz. Other than that it is a nice amp.

Ya know Harv, it does have a little hum to it. But, for almost free, you can work around it. It really is a nice little amp.

Not yet, I will wait a bit, I want one but I am not into getting one until later in January. If I have to pay retail I will pay it. No biggie. I still may go for the Alchemist I don't know yet I have to go to GC to try them out.

Almost Free means fifty bucks to the Amp guy to do the mod, is still almost free. Besides for gigging or jamming the buzz was not that bad. Just in my little room it bugged me a little too much.
