fingers — Jun 17, 2011you've just had a Bud at 7 am -was that with your  breakfast. :)

Hookbender -  you will not see any of those beers being sold in Germany.
3 and 4% beers - sounds like brewed especially for you as a drinking beer :)

next you will be telling me about German food as you ain't too fond of the frankfurters in the hotdog you like with your drinking beer.

But you will see Bud sold in Germany, which increased in sales last year by 9.3% as beer sales decreased overall by 3%.

And now that you made an ass of yourself, might I increase your knowledge a little further? Budweiser is actually a German name. Not that it matters to you as you seemed to forget that certain statements within your "opinion" can be challenged and proven to be absolutely false which makes your opinion amount to a steamy pile of horse shit.

I kinda figured you would discount the beer in the article. I can produce more for you but I think on this particular subject it would do no good and serve no purpose.

I haven't ate any german food so I have no opinion. Now I assume your trying to tell me that a beer with 4% alcohol really isn't a beer? And that a 4% alcohol beer will taste bad because it has 1 or 2 % less alcohol? You lost your mind. You really do need to read about beer before you pop off at  the big ole fly trap under your nose. ;D
After I saw the movie Beer Wars I rarely touch a Miller or Andhowsyourbush product.  Screw 'em.

We do make some good ones, but the big two can't stand the thought of anyone else getting a fraction of a percent of the market.

Eric Idle (I think)  said it best: "American beer is like sex in a canoe."

And here is some more knowledge based facts for you Fingers. As you can see, Budweiser really isn't so much of an American beer to start with. So now we have a beer with a German based name, that originally was developed in a completely different country all together. Maybe you'll ease up now that we find it's technically not a American beer after all.

I bought a couple of "big" Bud bottles today that I shall enjoy later on this evening :-)

Just a little fucking helpful hint - If you want to try to me smart and authorative at least work out it is a Czech brew called Budvar I mentioned earlier in this thread - the clue is in the .cz on the url - you prize twat :)

I like Budvar - don't even try to implicate the Czech in that  abomination of duff - I mean bud created in the US.

:)

You need to go to the US and straight of the plane go into a bar and order a pint of Bud from the tap.

You and Hook are agreeing your love for a completely different beverage.

No, I don't need to do that at all. I'm not agreeing anything I am simply saying that I like Budweiser and as I live in UK I expect that you realise that I am talking about Budweiser that can be bought in the UK....get it ?

Look you ignorant twat - I vill say ziss only vonce - yout don't get real German beer in the US.
We don't get it here either.

For your education - beer in home markets and export markets usually bear little resemblance.

In Germany,  beer is  5% and up -  I know that because I have spent time there and drunk it.

Bud in the UK on tap or in bottles is also 5% = I know that I live here and  have drunk it.

Bud on tap in the US is horrible piss - I know that - because  I lived in the US and I have drunk it.

Heineken on tap in the UK is a passable but weak beer in the UK - I know that because I live here and  I have drunk it.

Heineken on tap in the Netherlands is 5% and a class beer - I know that - because  I lived there and I have drunk it.

I could go on.

Unless it is real mccoy import of local German product then you  have no idea what you are talking about.

And unless you actually get a passport and travel you will never know.

btw - Bud in the UK is much better than in the US

Still way down the list but doesn't resemble the piss water that is deemed suitable to serve from a tap in the a bar in the US.

I'm still gonna have to minimize the importance of your opinion on beer as you seem to not appreciate the reason it was created in the first place.

Your post leads me to conclude that your opinion on beer is based on just a few weird things like alcohol content, which has little to do with the taste of beer, your dislike of anything American, even Budweiser beer, and of course your comparison of Budweiser beer to piss is the weirdest of all. I can only assume you drink lots of piss and thats where your expertise comes in, not on the beer subject that others are discussing.

Perhaps you should drink something stronger with a much higher alcohol content and just leave the beer drinking to us. Whisky, how about that? Just a suggestion.

Beer is about ingredients, not alcohol content. And the ingredients don't matter much if people don't like it. I would say Bud will continue to be way more profitable that any beer your talking about. And that would mean more people like it also as more people drink it and have it at their local stores. Might I add that Budweiser still hods its own in taste test. Even after all these years.

Lots of people here in the US drive foreign cars like Mercedes and BMW and its not because their the best made car with the least problems. kinda the same thing with Beer it would seem.
Even though alcohol content > 5% is legal in Iowa the commodity beers are still 3.2% largely because anything more potent has to go through the state warehouse.  There are all sorts of brews with much higher content, including imports and American brews.

<opinion>Hook, I think it's the marketing, LACK of more expensive quantity / quality of ingredients and conditioning from exposure to little else that keeps Bud and Miller so profitable.  Shareholders would balk at even a penny a can increase in manufacturing cost for the purpose of adding more flavor. Many just want as unobtrusive an alcohol delivery system as possible and as may have been mentioned even the fiercest brand loyal 'light' beer drinkers can not consistently pick their brand in taste tests. Profit is not a measure of taste in this case.</opinion>

In defense of Fingers' opinion that higher content beers taste better, you have to start with a higher specific gravity which means more malt more malt should equate to more taste.

I don't mind what beverages anyone prefers, but it is interesting discussion.
Well, the point of this discussion has kinda left beer and been steered toward the importance of personal opinion and subjective subjects. Jon was simply stating his opinion on the beer of his choice and Fingers seemed to jump all over his ass for nothing.

The bottom line is that beer, whether you like a certain beer or not, is completely a personal preference. It has little to do with the quality of ingredients or where it's from or made. If you like Bush beer, that's cool. Or, any other beer.

i think the reason Bud isn't flavored more is because it sells, which equals people like it. Why mess up a good thing? The company has enough resources to brew any beer they wish to brew.

Remember when the big Cigar fad hit and people were buying all these expensive cigars? Well, I participated in the hype. I smoked many, many different very expensive cigars. then one day on the road I got the urge for a cigar and bought a cheap King James cigar from a connivence store for .50 cents. That ended my expensive cigar buying. It was pretty damn good tasting.  The reason I said this is because it's kind of the same thing with beer. You buy this expensive German beer for a length of time, then try something American and much cheaper and it's like damn, this pretty good stuff.

In the end, you drink a few beer, get a buz, and piss it out. Why not do it cheaply. ;D

I remember when I worked at Winn Dixie for several years a long time ago. They came out with beer for a short time. Damn it was awful. That and Milwaukee's Best is the only 2 undrinkable beer I've ever had.

It's all opinion, and my thoughts on beer are just that, my thoughts.

There are shit loads of views and ways to argue many different sides to beer. I pretty much enjoy almost any beer in moderation. Coors light is still my drink 6 or more choice though. I like the taste.
Hookbender — Jun 19, 2011 i think the reason Bud isn't flavored more is because it sells, which equals people like it. Why mess up a good thing? The company has enough resources to brew any beer they wish to brew.

And my contention is that the sheep fall prey to the marketing (which usually makes sure that their beer is plentiful and cheap at events people like - this subliminally ties, anchors is the correct word, their beer to the good time).  Most people LIKE to be told what to eat, drink, buy and do.  It's just the way things are.

Some people like extremely hot peppers, not me.  Some people like watery beer with no taste (regardless of alcohol content though the better ones usually are higher), not me.

My opinion was (and still is) that Budweiser (the U.S. version - never knew there was more than one) is the worst tasting beer I've ever had and I've had beers in 18 different countries (including Germany, throughout the U.K., the Netherlands, Canada and Mexico).

If you want to narrow the conversation down to watery American light beers even, I'd take a Miller Light or a Coors over a Budwiper any day of the week.  Bud just has a really bad flavor (and strange aftertaste) that is purely horrible to me.  That's my opinion.  Of course, now that I've lived up in the Pacifi Northwest for a few years, I will always drink WATER if "real" beer isn't available.
irrespective of all this, I still thoroughly enjoyed the two big bottles of Bud that I had last night. Nice alchohol content (5%) and a very pleasant taste.   Not sure why this thread has made some respond with such high passion and in some cases just downright completely unwarranted abuse....it's only beer and as you will see from my opening post in the thread that I was simply saying that I had just had some Bud and enjoyed it.     Bud is just "one" beer out of many that I like. Some real ales I like very much, and some I don't....it's purely a matter of taste (before anyone pipes up I'm not suggesting that Bud is a real ale) so I really can't get my ahead around why everyone's so uptight about this.  I'm bemused by it all  :)
Of course it is a matter of taste and opinion.

As for the abuse angle.

I just stood my corner - I consider "Get over yourself" and  "Eat shit and bark at the moon" where the abuse started.

So don't try to pretend you are the victims.

If you want to dish it out - then don't bleat when you get the same treatment back

Just for the record, I did that to you, Fingers, in a joking fashion as I thought you would appreciate it. ;D

Craig, have you tried other American beers, like natural light or bush, colt 45 ;D? bud isn't that bad of beer. It's what it is. plain and simple. And I don't see how someone could complain about aftertaste and say they like Coors light. I had to get used to the after taste of that and it just grew on me. Like a fungi, or something I guess. ;D
I've tried WAY more than you can imagine.  I used to have a friend where we would try out a new beer every chance we could.  However, I've never had a "bush" beer though I have gotten beer on a girl's bush before (perhaps you meant Busch?).  We had Colt 45 - as a chaser to Bacardi 151 shots.  We had Mickey's Big Mouths (including in shakes).  We had cases of Lowenbrau (light and dark).  All the Mexican beers I mentioned before, every American beer we could get down in San Diego and every color of beer (golden, amber, dark, black, red).  There's a few of the "Special" Coors beers (that are only around for a short while) that were very good and Michelob on tap was great.  We even tried some (like Schaffer's Light) that make water look heavy.  We also tried as many imports as we could.  The ones from Japan stood out well compared to other places like Canada and Austrailia.  I can't even begin to remember all of them (let alone the ones I had in Europe).

Well, then your an excellent example of how opinions differ on different beer. And, this one time....I've always referred to Busch beer, as bush beer. Way to be dick head every chance you get!

Beer vending machines - never seen one - where was that?

when I was a senior in high school, I went to the University of Cincinnati to see a friend who lived in a frat house.  They had a Pepsi machine that was filled with beer (no soft drinks at all) and the price was $0.25.   Yes, sports fans, one shiny quarter for a beer!  I thought college was the coolest thing ever.  Now, if they'd just had a similar cigarette machine....    ;)

Country I am asking

Heineken would suggest Netherlands.

I really can't remember seeing them there and I have lived there, but they do have an vending snacks  in the wall thing going on there.
Which could have had beer - but bars are pretty much open 24/7 so why would you need to .

Warm Heineken - It could have been fresh piss -  then they bottle it,  chill it down and Hookbender uses it as a drinking beer.
