She finally arrived!

My first Carvin electric. First time I've ever played one and I sure am loving it so far. Especially this neck! The tung oil finish is soooo smoth
Wow!  Guitar looks great, but that neck looks especially nice (my next custom will be a maple neck with Tung oil as well - can't wait!).  :)
Love it Juan!  Bolt T?  What pickups are those?

My carvin was a kit, and it's not even finished (the body).  I've liked it so much I still haven't taken it back apart to get the body finished on it.  Really nice guitar!

Let us know what you think once you've had time to put it through its paces.

Congrats on the new axe!
Wonderful looking instrument. It is a beauty. HSS pups, and 22 frets, 25-1/2" scale, it don't get any better than that for my taste.

Good luck with it amigo......

Congrats, nice looking guitar! ONLY thing I don't like about all Carvins (in the 'looks' dept) are those zillion pole pickups they insist on. I'm sure they serve a purpose and obviously could be swapped in a snap, but yeah, just never been a fan of their appearance.

Here's another one! I saw this on Ebay and couldn't pass it up.  ;D Wizard 5 piece maple/walnut neck, basswood body with maple cap, Edge Pro bridge (not the cheap version!), all for $650 shipped! Just need to pop some DiMarzios in it, or maybe a Sustainiac, the it'll be good to go!

Mmm... Pointy!  :)

Hmmm, that looks awfully familiar, lol!  ;)

Really, they're great guitars, I sold mine but purely to fund something else. My maple 'cap' was razor thin, cosmetic, really just a veneer, so they're more or less a pure basswood body. Makes pickup selection kinda easy though. The star of the show was the edge tremelo, blows away the 'z' line shit. If I had kept mine, I prolly was going to slap some pickup rings on it, the cavity is pretty big and odd looking compared to the tidy looks of other lines (Anderson, Suhr, J Custom Ibanez, etc).

I had a HELL OF A TIME getting my DiMarzio's wired up properly with this guitar, colors just don't sync up like the older stock Ibanez stuff, lol. I saved my end results so if you do go that way and can't get it,  lemme know, might save you some hassle.  :)

Congrats!
Ah, I should have figured it was just a veneer at that price.  ::) And yea, I had a little bit of trouble when I put DiMarzios in my other RG. I was able to get them working buuuuut the Evolution series really don't like being split with each other so I routed out a cavity for a single-coil pickup and tossed in a cheapie pickup.

Split settings sound good now, just waaay too quiet so I think I'll be replacing the single with something like a Cruiser.

Anyway, both the Carvin and the RG play beautifully. I am sooo in love with the tung-oiled neck on the Carvin and the pickups sound so great I might just leave them as is. Plus, the bridge pickup has a lot of bite when split, which is great seeing as I don't have a guitar with a single coil in the bridge position. The RG's Wizard neck is super comfortable. The bridge had the problem of staying a little sharp when pulled up (like most Edge bridges seem to do after a while) but I easily remedied that with some chapstick on the posts. So I guess I'm set for guitars for a while. That is until it's time to order my next custom Carvin.  8-)
What pickups on the Carvin?
A pair of S60A alnicos and a C22B.
...and then I picked this baby up today. Had to! It was priced $500 too low by mistake.  ;)

...aaaand one more!  ;D

You're out of control!!! ;D
Holy shitsky!

Grats on all Juan...  So many guitars, so little time...

Hey, if you get a moment could you expand on the chapstick solution?  I have an edge tremolo that does exactly what you mention but no funds to get it properly fixed at the moment...

EDIT - Ok, I googled the chapstick deal and apparently I have been living with my head under a rock or something, lol...  Would still appreciate if you could expand a bit on exactly how you did it...
Simple! All I did was turn the bridge posts 180°, coated the part where the knife edge sits with some Chapstick using a toothpick (regular black stick of Chapstick, no flavor), then I turned the posts back and worked the bridge up and down for a bit. Cleared it right up!
awesome thanks, I'll give that a go.  My main axe has had bridge issues for a few years, lost some otherwise good takes to that, so hoping it works!
I'm thinking of a site that would proceed from this point in the thread with 15 pages of debate regarding the tonal characteristics of different flavors of Chapstick... whether carmex sucks tone or not... a guy who scored some NOS 1973 Chapstick that "is so 3D". then it all ends in a thread lock with Lance banned... again.

lol, sorry for the OT!

nice guitars, grats!

When was Lance banned at the Watering Hole...he left on his own accord, he wasn't banned. :)

Yikes, you're still pissed off with me for a comment I made to you 7 years ago?  ;D
lol! no! meant to be humorous, effin text communication getting in the way of a joke again.

No problem, phone me and tell me the joke over the phone...but make sure you tell it with a South African accent, not an American accent.  ;D
and when you call him, his name is pronounced "lawnce" not "Layunce"  LOL

p.s.  Sheep, I think that analogy would be possible if we morphed the Bert Cave with The Gear Page.   ;D
ding ding, that's the one :)
LOL, and if we REALLY wanted it to get funky, mix a little "The Absolute Sound" in there.   ;)

Howie

I thought you knew, The Gear Page name has been changed to the Scott Peterson Axe-FX lounge.  ;D

He told the forum the other day Lance was banned for spamming for Tokai.
lol, I've never started a Tokai thread at TGP, ever, not one...so how the fuck was I spamming considering there's hardly ever a Tokai thread on TGP?  :)
wheres the thread?
DreamTheaterRules — Dec 03, 2011wheres the thread?

Impossible for me to remember what thread he said it in...there's just too many threads going on at that place in the Digital Modelling Section.
Got a good start going Sixto!  As long as they keep making them you can't have enough.

What I miss is new samples of your excellent music...  Any projects in progress?
Did a little upgrade on the Les Paul.  8-)

85 at the bridge and 60 at the neck. Very sweet tones and super quiet, too!

Badass! Bet it sounds amazing. Congrats.

If I ever get a LP, it will be a gold top....Doug Aldrich is never wrong.

awwwyeeeeeeeeeah  8-)
Dayum! Nice! You need to put up a group shot so we can trully appreciate the collection.

i should but i think i'll wait until i finish building my studio. going to hang them all on the wall probably
Juan, we've been through a lot together.  I think it's time you loaned me a guitar!  I'll take the last one!   ;D

How do you like it?
haha sure thing howie. it's in the mail. the guitar plays pretty great. probably the most comfortable 7 i have ever played. the finished neck took a bit to get used to as did the pickup switch (i kept trying to pull up instead of forward) but it's pretty awesome. really love the bridge, too. stays in tune forever
Music Man Petrucci's are the fricking bomb!!!  I owned a 6-string for a few years and had to sell it for a move.  Absolutely killed me to part with it.  Neck was a dream (I had one of the original series in Pearl Redburst).
grats on that one bro.  really like it!  How about a little sample?
thanks, i am really loving it and sure! i can put up a sample later today  ;)
here's a little riff and some noodling. still getting used to the 7 strings. my fingers get confused pretty easily right now  ;D

I like it.  Using the rec?
actually using a custom audio electronics preamp. 3+se direct into rme soundcard, processed with some custom IRs
I'm looking at a 6 string one of these.  First, amazed at how many versions there are these days!

But, what do all the knobs and switches do?
the les paul-ish switch picks betwen magnetic, mix, and piezo signals. switch near the knobs is the pickup selector. then there's the mag volume and push-pull tone (coil tap, only when in center position) and the piezo volume. behind the guitar there are also mini controls for piezo bass and treble and a control for the mix signal
wow.  that's a lot of knobs!
DreamTheaterRules — Jul 19, 2012wow.  that's a lot of knobs!

You must be looking at the picture I posted in that other thread, ya?  ;) :D
studio's mostly finished!

just need a little more acoustic treatment to get rid of some flutter and to install a quiet a/c in the wall (where the cut is)
Hey!  I've got that same project desk!  Works pretty nice doesn't it?  :)

I know a few people who would just die to have your studio - they absolutely love red and black.  Looks great!
Looks good.  Looks like a control room without a recording room, I'm guessing this is a mix studio?

Are those the first generation Alesis passive monitors?  I see an Oktava tube mic power supply also, which mic do you have?

And are you using the Eleven Rack for for guitar tones, or just as your audio interface?
yeah, this is just the mixing/listening room. the recording room is on the other side. the tube mic power supply is actually for my carvin tube mic and the monitors are event 20/20Ps. the eleven rack is mostly for guitar tones and, for the moment, it is also my mic pre. it's connected to an rme hdspe aio via spdif (back and forth for reamping)

So many new guitars, you're entitled to make one mistake.  ;D
