Cheggout "Shtee TV" on Facebook, we need likes...
If it's by proxy, you probably missed this post...  Or you assumed it was about somebody else?

Either way, again don't misread what I am saying (I'll leave to Howie to speak for himself) -  the challenging, prodding, joking is all ok and expected, and i have said that repeatedly...  Just seemed like it was a (good) bit over the top for a while there, and I'm not the only one who felt it.  Of course if you feel it's your job to change the world one Howie at a time, you go for it.  (See I can hyperbolize too!)  Just don't be surprised when eventually there's even less people here.

Interesting side note:  All of those guys are gone.   ;)   And two more are gone in the last few weeks!  :( :( :(   If we don't make this place a little friendlier SOON, there won't be anything left of it.  IMHO, of course.

I've lost parents, parents in law, cousins, life long best friends, all in the last few years.  I'm simply not going to spend time doing something that isn't "fun" for me.  Arguing and getting insulted has never been on my list of fun things to do.  If we can't disagree respectfully, and have to insult others who don't believe the way we do, I don't see it ever being fun again.  If I crack a joke and instead of a smile someones reaction is to bash, I'm probably in the wrong place.

I'm trying to get Deano to come back.  If not, another one who I know IS a friend is gone.

So in closing, I'd like to quote the immoral J O E Y D A H L I A, (I think I got that right  :D ) and say, "Can't we all just get a tone?"
(props to Joey for in the midst of a HUGE bashfest, coming up with one of the funniest/punniest lines ever!)

Can't find that.  Redirects (on my fb) to the Steve Harvey Show.

My favorite on FB though, by far, is MidiWare.  It's just endless images of incredible studio porn. Like this:

Does this work?  Just curious, no big deal.

Well, this is my first time here since Friday so I saw all these posts at the same time, forgive me if it's a huge blur.

So again... is it my responsibility, then, to make sure it's fun for everyone, or specifically, for Howie?  Make sure I know who is going to get offended and by what?  Sheep was offended by someone posting his name. Fingers was offended by an argument over Budweiser.  A very large portion of the time, when Howie is offended, it seems like he steps right into it--posts about religion come to mind, or posts about obamacare, or global warming, or whatever.  Seriously, those are things people argue LOUDLY and often about, not just here.  Granted, one time Howie posted a Dream Theater video, I thought it was pretty lame, and after I realized I was being a dick about it, I left the discussion. That's a somewhat reasonable thing to do, it would have been nicer to not say anything at all, but at least I watched the damn thing.

On the big music post--yeah, I got very annoyed.  I guess I feel like there's at least a little bit of shared responsibility there when you start a thread, and especially one that requests group interaction, to at least be involved. I found a lot of cool stuff in that thread and the thread went on without him, and I still dig nuggets out of that thread daily.  But whatever, if that's too sensitive I'll shut up about it.  I've got plenty of gear porn and music to post.

What part of what i wrote makes you say that?  You seem to be having trouble understanding the point I feel I've made over and over again.
Charger,

First off, thank you for the opening lines.  I appreciate you saying that.  But, my issue was that IN PERSON you didn't say things the same was as they are coming across here.  Yeah, we disagreed.  Of course we did.  But you never, not one time, said anything demeaning, sneered, or so much as gave a facial expression that indicated "you are an idiot" or anything like that.  You actually appeared to listen to what Jamie and I said and then reply.  And holy crap batman, I have once again tried 3 times to say I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU AND I FIGHTING!   EVER!!!  I said that things here and at the prior place, had gotten so heated in some discussions that if they were in person, they would have come to blows.  You well know that I wasn't even in 90% of those threads.  I was simply talking about how bashing was common here.  This may be one of our issues.  Heck, it IS one of our issues.  You seem to decide with I think and you won't let me convince you otherwise.  THis being an example.  Another one is the music.  I had stated, twice, that I was listening to almost everything that was put up.  In part, or in whole, but I was listening to some, most or all of, all the things listed.

This is friendly discussion and not arguing the point, but, can you see how it might be different for you to listen to both satanistic music and Christian music and not really care either way, but that a Christian might not want to listen to satanist music?  I've often said that I like this or that music but the more I hear of the lyrics the less I can listen to it.  Since it DOES mean something too me, it's different than you listening to it where it's all meaningless to you.  Just as (only an example) your wife, or Lance or Neil might like a Christian rock song I did but might soon tire of hearing about Jesus being the savior.  That can be offensive to Jews, so even though the "God" part of the song might appeal to them they don't want to listen to stuff about Jesus.  Just making a point.  I do like much of that music!  SAID SO.  But the lyrics eventually lead me away from it.  And it's not a lack of tolerance to something I don't agree with.  I refused to support something that I think is wrong.  I've like almost every song I've heard by Avenged Sevenfold, but why would I spend $15 on their CD when every song has some form of satanist reference?  It's not a lack of tolerance.  They can do WHATEVER They want, but I am not going to support them.  I dont' support the Cincinnati Opera either, and they aren't doing anything wrong.  It's just not how I choose to spend my money.

Also, I was a shocked as you when you said that about Chase.  What have I ever done that compares to that?  I never said "don't ever talk too me again because you don't believe in God."  I said "stop bashing or insulting me because you don't believe in God."  Big difference. And HOW you say things is the issue.  Craig says things all the time but it's always taken as a joke.  Some of the things you say "seem" to be seething, condescending, etc.  And for the (insert correct roman numeral here) time, I was not asking if anyone else believed in satanism or not.  I was asking if those here believed that those bands really believed in it or if it was an act.  I asked here specifically for a very good reason.  I wanted to ask a group of people who were mostly non-believers.  Ask that question in a Christian forum and almost everyone would be of the opinion that those bands ARE satanists.  I believe some are (how can you do some of those things to your body and not be?) but I believe many are atheists to whom it is an act and means NOTHING.  We all know satanism is real.  I had several people I know who ventured into it and the things they told me were truly scary.  Anyway, I asked here because I wanted to hear thoughts from a group that mostly doesn't believe in God.

LEAVE MY PRS GUITARS ALONE!   ;D   If we ever do a WHstock again and I bring the last two, you'll drool on them.  That's a promise.

Dude, I don't even care that much about religion.  I posted one jokey thing--yeah, I think they believe in Satan all the way to the bank, or something, like the christian musicians, like little kids singing about love.  I had a second post in that thread that was much more direct--If the music is good, it's good, if it's bad, it's bad.  There are limits... I mean, someone singing about killing babies and eating them is not my cup of tea.  But I generally like good music.

I don't even think I spend a lot of time digging on religion... I find it funny that you seem to be directing this religious stuff at me. I play in a band at the temple, I've read the torah several times, I can chant most of the blessings in hebrew, and actually I am agnostic, not atheist, my daughter even plays in a Christian band (even as a jew).  So It's amusing to me that that's what bothers you about me.  I ask questions about religion because it bothers me when it disrupts free thought, when it ignores science.  But I guess that's the idea--that you can't be entirely free and be religious.  Which is why I'll probably never choose a religion per se.

As for DM leaving, I'm totally surprised by that, he had definitely been actively participating in the music thread... last posts from him he was digging the music... At this point I wouldn't be surprised if that's my fault too.

charger — Mar 03, 2014Do people really want me to start deleting offensive posts?  Who decides what is offensive?  Me?  Howie?  G-d help us all.

Does anyone here think that's going to bring people back?  Is that the point, that to keep people here we need to start policing threads?

No. Politics and religion are touchy topics. Even family members won't speak to each other sometimes because of heated discussions/disagreements over these subjects. As far as those topics are concerned, everyone here knows how those discussions go. And having 5 people debating 1 person isn't pilling on. It's 5 people stating opinions/facts that dispute one persons different opinion. And then you have those nasty details like, is that 1 person stating crap as fact, and not willing to read articles that disprove that crap? You just have to have thick skin to discuss those topics, and understand that you can't take what's said personally.

Hell, I actually learned a hell of a lot over the years in politics and religion just participating in the debates. I learned more about religion, for example, in the few years here than in my entire life by reading and studying the topics trying to win the argument.  ;D
Completely off this topic, but what you state is COMPLETELY influenced by WHAT you read....

Or what you don't read.

But if you read factual material and value that material your likely to state things that are generally considered to be factual, verses ah, other material that, ahhh, may not be so valued by people who like the "truth".

;D ;D ;D

(couldn't resist that one)  ;D
Love that studio room!  The raised floor is very cool as well.  :)
What I love the most about the Real World pics, as opposed to a lot of the studio pics I see posted, is that it looks like a working studio.  Cables on the floor, soldering irons on the benches, shit happening.  Most studio shots are staged and pristine, and I'm always thinking... throw some damn cables on the floor! Put a grungy dude and his girlfriend on the couch!
Two things about that room that I really like are all the windows and how high the ceiling is.  Too many studios make you feel like you're in some claustrophobic cave (plus I'm tall at 6' 4" so low ceilings really suck and all the heat rises putting it right around my head where it's the most uncomfortable).

Yep.  I definitely saved that picture to keep as a reference for some dream studio of the future.  :)
Looks like a fun atmosphere to work in. Thats the biggest plus imo. I dig all the speakers and electronics as well. Looks like heaven to me. Damn it. I did it again. Sorry DTR.  ;D ;D ;D
Looks temporal 2 me. But what do I know?
DreamTheaterRules — Mar 05, 2014Looks temporal 2 me. But what do I know?

Yeah. What do you know? By the way. What does temporal mean? I'm from Alabama.  ;D ;D
I think it has to do with global warming.   ;D

I'm giving it up for lent.

I wonder why the post numbering is skipping every now and then... I mean, 125 then 127... weird.

That's those people disappearing DTR was referring to. Their like ghost. They can just vanish.  :D
Why did everyone stop talking in this thread?  Crickets.....
You're back...
