The idea that Time would say "what happens if we leave Afghanistan" as a statement, not as a question.  It's junk.  I mean, we are IN Afghanistan, and it happened anyway.  Right?  How are we furthering the cause of Afghan women?  I understand the contrast between that gorgeous Afghan women 20 years ago and this one.  But I do not understand how we are making it better.  We are getting killed, spending money by the truckload, supporting a corrupt regime.  A targeted campaign against Al-Qaeda is one thing.  The wholesale occupation of Afghanistan for nine years is another thing altogether.

As far as the job Obama is doing, the guy got healthcare, reasonable economic reform, credit card reform, the stimulus did work (most experts saw us heading towards 11% unemployment), allowed stem cell research, he's got the combat troops coming home from Iraq in, I think, two months(!), 2 supreme court justices approved, killed the F-22 waste program, got a $20 billion fund set aside by BP to clean up the gulf... (oh and maybe you can tell me how that went because what I hear now is that the oil has somehow vanished?)--all while parrying an entire protest movement aimed solely at him, a refusenik Republican party, and all the vitriol that's fit to print.  Under the circumstances I think he's done exceedingly well.  I wish our country was more unified, but I can hardly blame Obama for that.

Certainly it couldn't be toxic policies. Not even a consideration??

My fix? As a start, I would suspend all money given to any country, and all spending in government by government, then take a look at the situation. 2nd, call in a team of successful businessmen, not economist, and start chipping away at useless spending in the budget. 3rd, I'd get on T.V., tell America we're broke, we are ending both wars, and in addition to that, we are bringing all troops home from other countries. 4th, I would require that anyone receiving any benefits for any medical condition be examined by government approved doctors, at least 3, to determine if the person is really sick or has a condition to enable them to receive such benefits. Pay the doctors $500 per person and get ready to make a profit government will never match again. Get rid of the healthcare bill, completely. Tell America taxes will stay the same for the remainder of my term. Offer loans to small businesses at 1%. (low) Take all money we still have from tarp or the stimulus and poor it into the housing mkt. I'd take all houses and group them by price range. Sell them to people for a fixed rate at a fixed price and get money moving. Get rid of GM and Chrysler. Force all banks that got bailed out to pay back all money in X amount of time or shut them down.

And, get all divorce laws rewritten with special attention being given to child custody and property in the event of a divorce. Make the child support payment reflect the fact that women wanted equal rights and they are gonna be applied to divorces. They now work, for example. The primary parent will be the one best able to provide for the child. Mother, or Father. In the even either parent causes any problem with not allowing visitation or talking bad about the other parent in any way once found guilty will require a 2 month mandatory jail sentence, not negotiable.

I would require that laws be changed to enable whores to be whores. If a women wants to be payed for her puntang, so be it. It would cut down on divorces, probably.

I would let gay people get married.

I would make pot legal.

I would kill people convicted of murder and get them out of our prisons.

I'd drink a good bit more than I should.

I'd simply just beat the shit out of Rev. Jackson every time I got mad. And I could, by the way.

How's that for a start?

That graph  simply show the size of debt as a % gdp.
Spending, taxation and growth are all equally involved in that picture  so you can't draw any firm conclusion about spending from it.

A rise in the graph could be due to increased spending, unwise tax cuts or negative GDP growth due to  a recession.

There is a fourth - high inflation, this could explain the fall under Carter.
But none of the years since has involved high inflation

So you need to use your loaf and take a look at the underlying economic picture during the times the graph represents.

the current trajectory since 2007/8 - it's pretty obvious what the cause of that is -
a fall in gdp due to recession
tax revenue falling
Huge transfer of private sector liabilities on to the public balance sheet.
Day to day budget spending increases.


Balancing the economic impact of decisions is a matter of judgement and politics.

Cutting spending if it causes tax revenues and gdp growth to reduce by more than the cuts you made is not a good idea - it simply raises the debt burden.

You President Hook would find yourself in the dire economic situation of trying to catch the falling knife.

We've already gotten completely FUCKED by Wall Street, and they kept all their money and continue to fleece this country in the interest of greed. Blaming the government for the sins of the bankers at this point is sort of silly, since our government is pretty much owned by the banking industry.

I don't know - I pretty much cited things that ripped apart all your foolish assumptions in one of my posts. But we already know you don't care about reality if it conflicts with whatever point you're trying to make this minute, so you'll remember what you like.

Look, man, if you were making any sense and not coming off like some moronic half-informed tea party wasteoid who watches Glenn Beck, I would let it slide...but sometimes dipshits need to be called on their dipshittery. I'm frustrated by the fact that you keep spouting all these things and you have yet to provide a single shred of evidence that you understand anything. Then, when people call you on your endless bullshitting, you react as though we're "crazy liberals" trying to "defend our Fuhrer until the end". It's just crap. Crap begets crap. And my attacks are basically the reaction to that (only much more well-written).
