I think those two should get a room, eh?  The Pick and Hook show!  ;)
I think based on the evidence Pick has supplied, I'm gonna have to consider him racist. Unless he has some evidence to rufute that claim. ;)

I take it you're staying home mañana.  heh heh
Are there black racists?  Of course there are.  Are there white racists?  Yes.  There are Chinese racists, and Korean racists, and Russian racists.  Latin American racists.  There are lots and lots of racists out there.  That doesn't make it right, for any of them.

I was watching PBS's Frontline documentary on the current presidential candidates last night, and it was pretty astounding how difficult it initially was for Obama to break through in Illinois politics, not because he was black, but because the black polticians who controlled the Chicago machine considered him "not black enough."  They actually ran their campaigns against him based on his half-white heritage and Harvard Law background.  So Obama went after white voters instead.

It's not that different from the problem John McCain had with conservatism... sure, he was conservative, but it was very tough for him to win over the conservatives in the Republican party.  It wasn't until he picked Palin that they considered him "conservative enough".  Ironically, pciking the conservative to please the base probably cost him 5 points in the polls.  I've been watching Tim Pawlenty on all the talk shows lately, and I have to say with Pawlenty as his VP pick, I think this would be a much closer race.

If he had maintained his candor, and picked Pawlenty or Lieberman, this race would be a dead heat. All those independents and Hillary racists would be in McCain's camp.

I think the candor part is very important, though - I think if he had come out with all the negative, crap-filled bullshit he's been spewing since the convention in desperation, he'd still be behind.

McCain's made a LOT of bad decisions with his campaign, which I think shows how flawed a leader he would be if he manages a miracle today.
