This weekend I listened to the new Tom Petty album (stremed from NPR)... not a bad album though one or two songs just sucked and i would have liked to skip them, but the stream was such that you couldn't skip or fast forward.
I also listened (for probably the thousandth time) to the Violent Femmes album. This, to me, is one of those seminal albums. And the acoustic bass and guitar has some real ripping moments.

I also listened to London Calling by The Clash, another great album that I can listen to straight through.

And then, Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction. I like this album a lot but have a kind of love/hate relationship with Jane's Addiction. Still, great album.

A few classics there! Is
THIS the new TP album you're talking about?

Yeah! I couldn't play it off youtube- we were up in Tahoe, streaming everything off our phones and some albums don't allow mobile listening. The first song sucks, and we almost gave up on the album because we couldn't skip it.
Listened to the album twice. Definitely some good tunes on there (except that first song - WTF?).
Today I'm listening to Rare Bird's discography then I'm going back to Bill Nelson for a bit. After that? Who knows! :)
BTW - Can't remember if I mentioned this one, but last week I listened to the new Judas Priest album and really liked it (except for one song, Metalizer, which sounded like something correctly rejected from an earlier album). Instead of feeling "new" it reminded me more of a good album that I missed back in their best days.
Didn't go back to Bill Nelson yet, instead I began going through Jun Miyake's works. Hard to describe! Japanese composer who entwines lots of genres, old and new. Songs are sometimes sung in foreign languages and, from what I've read, sometimes have no lyrical meaning - lol.
Here's one album - Stolen from Strangers
challenging ... maybe too much! :)

Enjoying the Wo Fat link now. Reminds me a bit of Alice In Chains which, incidentally, I just finished listening to their latest
The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. :)
listening to Message - From Books and Dreams right now... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSe6V7KkMyo
riffs are repetitive as hell but I can't stop listening to it. I think the intro hypnotized me or something... lol. turn over... turn over... turn over... side two is cool! in the homestretch now... and must say, I liked this a lot. will probably listen again.
(new Opeth album is out on youtube a couple weeks early btw!)
also: Moondog is pretty interesting! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK0yv9ME-h8
"Turn over, Turn over, Turn over, Turn over......." LOL ;D
Been swamped with work, preparing to find a new place to live and dealing with my Mom being in the hospital and a rehab place... So, that means I need some energetic music to keep me going!
Well, I've been waiting for Accept's new album (Blind Rage) to come out and, when it finally did, I got me a copy. Damn good stuff! (Even if it doesn't have Udo singing on it - more on him later). The full album isn't up on YouBoob yet, but
HERE is one of the new songs.
As for Udo, we were talking about Accept with and without Udo in another forum when someone posted a link to one of Udo's songs, Metal Machine (hear it
HERE!) and that put me on a kick listening to a bunch of U.D.O. albums (after listening to the new Accept album at least five times first ;) ).
What I think is funny is that Udo singing is what I think is Accept (whether it's his solo work or with the band). I can't help but think of Accept without Udo as a completely different band that still kicks major ass (I love Wolf's playing - always have).
I know some have been worried about me so I figured I'd better drop by with an update.
Since I only listen to my music, and only like the things that I'm told to like by some mystery web site, I took the challenge and I decided to listen through to stuff I already had, and that I hadn't listened to in a long time. I'm still working my way through my music in the car. That hard drive only has 30 gigs so it's less than 1/4 of my music, but I'm still working on the music on the car drive. I didn't start at "A" though and it's been so long I don't remember exactly where I started. So when I get to the end, I'll have to start over at A til I remember back where I started all this.
At work, I've been listening to almost all new stuff, or complete catalogs of bands I'd only heard or owned some of. In the last.. wow, 4 months, at work, I've gone through every album by Pat Travers, Mahogany Rush, Chicago, Kings X, Spocks Beard, Uriah Heep, Journey, Ted Nugent, Ratt, Guardian, King Crimson, Kutlass, Red, Sammy Hagar, and a few others. For those who don't believe me when I say I listen to new stuff, please feel free to disregard this paragraph. ;D
So here is the update... I'm on songs that begin with "S" now. There are a lot of them. I'll report back when I"m done.
"to that same old place that you laughed about"
Howie Lives !!!! there is proof above.........
Been SUPER busy getting my businesses going along with doing some training, preparing to move soon, dealing with my Mom in rehab for almost two months and getting some work done for a couple of customers! Damn... So that means I've been listening to a LOT of music! Here's some of it:
The discography for Ocean Colour Scene (check out one of their albums
HERE).
The discography for Icehouse (link was done before and laughed at by somebody who didn't think it was music).
Miles Davis - all four CD's of Bitches Brew Sessions.
HERE'S THE ORIGINAL ALBUM
DreamTheaterRules — Sep 09, 2014(sigh) Craig, why is it that we can joke with each other for years about seemingly anything, yet if I simply don't like some music that you like, you seem to get offended, and keep mentioning it months/ years later??? Geez, we like some of the same stuff and some we don't. Whatever I said about Icehouse was in jest. Why even mention my musical preferences when presenting yours? I really don't think anyone here's musical preferences are influenced by what I like or don't like, so why even mention it? Especially when I'm not even around. :-?
Let sleeping dogs sleep. :)
Did you come back just to whine?
I'm really digging the Broken Bells album. Great stuff. I've been absolutely floored by how good some of songza's curated playlists are... mostly I gravitate towards their "indie" stuff, and I've heard a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard before. This morning I listened to the entire Coheed and Cambria album "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3". I like that album for its experimentalism but the guitar sounds to me are kind of on the bright/harsh side. I've also been listening to Springsteen's "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and "Nebraska" a lot lately.

Checking them out now - sounds good so far. There's some nice lo-fi moments they put in there! :)

I've got their first five albums, but nothing after 2010 (I haven't figured out exactly how many they've made since either - apparently they created one called The Afterman, then added demos for the album, then added a live version - who knows). Anyway, In Keeping... was their second album way back in 2003. You might like one of their later albums better!
Listened to both Broken Bells albums - definitely liked them both (and will get them eventually). It was nice that both full albums were up on YouBoob. Ever once in a while I hear a song that, for whatever reason, I can loop for a bit and Mongrel Heart (from their first album) is one. :)
Keep 'em coming!

Broken Bells is Danger Mouse plus the singer/guitar player from the Shins. I am a huge fan of Danger Mouse's production and playing--he gets great sounds out of things, and plays interesting lines. You might like the Shins "Oh, Inverted World", though it has none of the electronic elements, the songwriting is really cool and unique. Danger Mouse is also half of Gnarls Barkley, which has a completely different feel, but similar production aesthetic.
Hmm... I've got some Shins, but it's been awhile since I've listened to them (and I rarely get into the who plays for who stuff so I sometimes miss efforts I might like). A quick lookup of Gnarls Barkley and I finally see a band that Cee-Lo is actually in! LOL. Whenever I used to see the credits for whichever singing competition he was a judge on (my Mom watched), it would usually just say he played for a bunch of other guys - i.e., a good session player (which are worth their weight in gold usually). I'll check it out, but I tend to avoid things as they head into rap territory. I wonder what Charles Barkley thinks of their band name? Heh.
Once again, I can't help but wonder just how much music is out there that I'd like but I've just never heard of! :)
I know... it's pretty endless. I hear things every day that I feel like I need to listen to more of.
Cee-lo doesn't rap...he's more of a modern soul singer. And I think Gnarls Barkley was better than his solo stuff. You've probably heard them, they do that song "crazy" and they did a pretty wicked cover of "gone daddy gone" by the violent femmes.
Finished listening to all of the Shins albums and have now progressed (regressed?) to Bongwater's discography. :D
Shins - Oh, Inverted WorldBongwater - Double Bummer
Both Broken Bells albums again - definitely good stuff!
Some Violent Femmes, then some Butthole Surfers!
Ah, what will be next??? :D
And I present: White Denim's "Corsica Lemonade". Yes, this was recorded in 2013, not 1977.

couldn't get that link on the iPad... but searched it out (found a live version).
will definitely be listening to them more tonight on monitors! very cool.

A bit of a Deep Purple meets Thin Lizzy. Nice! :)
(I'm probably going to go broke if I keep liking all this new music, but I don't go out or buy anything else so keep the new stuff coming! ;) )
Damn, I'm so all over the place I can't even remember all of the albums I've listed to today (besides more White Denim that is). That said, here's two:
Arcade Fire - Funeral
CLICK HERE TO HEAR ITRadiohead - OK Computer
OK Computer is one of my favorites of all time.
Update: I'm on songs that start with "T" now. There are a lot of songs that start with S and T!
Right! :)
The first one in my mind is "Stationary Traveller" (Camel) (both S and T :) )

I didn't have internet for 12 days while I was moving. Now I have a corrupt hard drive which, apparently, has even sent some corrupt files to the backups... Bleh. :(
I've been on a Tangerine Dream kick for the last few days (since I have well over 100 albums from them, it can go for a while!).
I have been listening to a multitude of shit. Some of the more interesting was some TV / Film tracks from David Hamburger.
The links on his page are on Soundcloud. Once you click on one track, it'll continue on to the next track. I listened to all of the stuff here. Wide range of tunes.
I got turned on here from a Fingerstyle Blues Guitar Course. I scored Taylor GS Mini Mahogony a while back. Can't put it down
http://davidhamburger.com/tv-film/
The Wild Texas Weather stuff has some interesting Guitar tunes.
Edit: Enjoyed the Camel - Stationary Traveller. I'll have to check out more from them.
Diggin' the White Denim that was posted some time back, now.
Pink Floyd: The endless river
It 'like seeing old friends after so many years ... New things and so many memories.
Good feelings.
Did you like Endless River Marco? I keep hearing that there isn't much on there to really get excited about. Personally, I'm waiting for Gilmour's next solo album due out soon and Steven Wilson's next album due out in February (see his 2013 album below).
Here's my contributions:
Kate Bush - The DreamingSteven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing
Yes...and no...
Probably not a masterpiece from them but there's that footprint I like so much.. :)
I don't know how to explain. My impression is that the entire album sounds like a long jam...it's like you're waiting for a song that will never come.
Anyway..it's a good jam with a LOT of Gilmour! :)
P.S. I'm looking forward to the next Wilson's album! "The raven that refused to sing" is one of my favorites CD!!
Wow! There's a new Opeth album out and this one is more like King Crimson than their usual fare. The metal guys must be hating it but I like it! :)
CHECK IT OUT HERE
I've been looping that for a few days now... while an awesome sounding album, I'm hearing a lot of all too familiar opeth motifs on it. I like it a lot (otherwise, I wouldn't be obsessively listening to it ;)) but I'm wondering if akerfeldt kinda phoned this one in... dunno, it has a thematic and tonal repetitious quality that I don't normally pick up from his tunes. it's like sides 3 and 4 from the heritage double album that wasn't.
the song with the diminished leads is friggen awesome, though. (sorry, don't pay attention to track titles while listening... but I think it's the longest one (edit: nope, it's River)
Two of Uli Jon Roth's early Electric Sun albums. Sounds like Plankton... er, I guess the other way around. heh. pretty great guitar... pretty meh vocals.
example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyWPC1ownbc
been listening to Earthquake and Firewind (albums) - killer stuff, if you dig "the roots of Plankton" type thing.
The Sheepster resurrects the fun thread! Yay! :D
I've been working with a friend to come up with a decent way to organize large music collections, but I think we spend more time going back and forth listening to music that's new to one or the other of us.
Looks like I'll have to check out 'ol Ulrich's stuff! :)
yeah, most of the music in my collection is practically imprinted in my mind already and I rarely listen to it. sometimes I'll check stuff for reference sounds but usually my memory, while flawed and incorrect, "sounds" better. heh.
I've been in some different genre's lately. stumbled on this band completely by accident.
Wrinkle Neck Mules
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsMkam63bwDZc1KNmVo6QhQ/playlists?shelf_id=3579731707244514302&view=50&sort=dd
I initially thought the name was cool. They hit a bunch of cool areas for me. Catchy lyrics, interesting guitar, really just good songs. It's hard to pin them to a particular sound. They have a new album just released. I bought it and like it quite a lot. That link has the playlists from all of their previous albums.
It's leans toward hillbilly music, but it's more than that. They found some recognition through a Geico commercial, but that's not how I found them.
I have told myself many times that I will get into country styles at some point... but it hasn't happened yet. heh.
I'm not sure what it is but I don't gel with much of that stuff - that band sounds good though! Kinda Buffet-like on some of the tracks.
I'm mostly a rock and metal type listener. Like that Uli. I listened to early Scorpions in Jr. High. I still enjoy some heavy metal. I was listening to some of Blind Guardian's latest yesterday.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPTz7z04_OM Brand new 2015
Most new country I can't stomach. Many of the dives that I frequented for suds in backwoods Virginia played country and southern rock. So I can easily lean that way, but it is cherry picked. Most is guitar oriented.
for those who like the... unusual. David Torn's Soundcloud. Holy crap there's some incredible things there. I kinda wish he'd use something other than his phone to record these though... heh.
https://soundcloud.com/jayapala
I think it's cool that those are recorded on a phone. Certainly unusual. I liked "A Nash Rambler for Anyone"
I had a friend that had an old Nash when I was in high school.
I just finished going through all the IQ albums after hearing all of Pete Townshend's albums and about half of the Scorpion albums. Next up? Probably the PFM discography! :)
