Posting that Flying Colors link led me to a playlist (posted at the bottom of this reply) and checking out that list had me stumble onto
THIS track. Never heard of them before. Apparently a new band out of Israel. Very jazzy and progressive. Liked it! :)
Here's the full playlist I came across that includes a lot of good music:

One of the "songs" on the playlist is actually an entire album called The Fusion Syndicate.
HERE'S THE LINKWow, check out the list of artists on this compilation! It's all I've been listening to for the last 45 minutes.
BTW - That Israeli band mentioned above is new and only have two SONGS out so far. The other one is called Late but I haven't listened to it yet - too busy with the Fusion Syndicate. :)
CraigBert — Mar 08, 2014Just saw that you're now a "Re-member" DM - lol! In another forum it shows you as an "Ex-member." I guess both are better than being a "Dis-member!" ;D
Ex Member - not to be confused with eunuch. ;D
I listened to And The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway yesterday. First time in many years. Reminded me of why I have that on album and not CD. I bought it when I was so into them I bought all there stuff, and never really liked it. I like some of it, of course, but overall agree with the comments on the link... it's more of a trippy ride than anything I currently play. Still, was good for old times sake.
Off to Hauer Music in Dayton for a little field trip. ;)
Today's choices include some vintage prog from Argentina:
MIA - Transparencies and some fine heavy metal prog from Redemption. I'm listening to their entire discography from their first on, but here's one of their albums to check out:
Origins of Ruin
Timely reading-- the music writer at the New Yorker just did a piece on "Lamb"--as it's turning 40 this year. Unbelievable.

What a presence Gabriel always commanded! While watching one of his solo concerts on DVD I couldn't help but think that he could have been a cult leader if he had wanted to. Guess I'm going to have to add some old Genesis to the playlist for today now. :)

Listened to both discs of Lamb, then both discs of Three Sides Live and now I'm back into some more weird stuff. Today's dusted off oldie is
On the Threshold of Reality from Mind DoctorsThe "about" says:
UK mid seventies drug fuelled Wicked Lady spin off band from around the period of "Axemen Cometh". This is even heavier. Instrumental acid fuzz guitar freakouts with doom laden backing. Wicked stuff indeed and deserves to be put on a higher recognition than it already is.
:)
listened to Korpiklaani today, probably not anyone here's cup of tea but I dig me some good folk metal now and again.

Hehe... The first link sounds like he's saying "Hand me over your beefsteak!" ;D
Interesting stuff. :)
Decided to listen to some Magenta. No, not the English band (nice folk rock, but too mellow for now) and, no, not the Welsh band (a bit more proggish), but the Norwegian band! They can be all over the map, but I like 'em and need to buy some of their other albums (I only own Art and Accidents).
Here's a taste using someone's playlist (which I hope works - I'm listening to the actual album right now).
Magenta - from Norway :)
Lil approachable Beefheart, well mostly
Well, I shared the 3 Genesis albums with the hood, yesterday. I listened to Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Selling England by the Pound, and Duke. I prefer the older stuff to Duke.
I really liked the Flying Colors link. I'll have to check out more of that with the start of this page after lunch.
Another Portnoy link. The Winery Dogs, W/ Richie Kotzen and Billy Sheehan. Worth a look?

Yep. I've got that one as well - more good stuff! :)
If you like Winery Dogs, check out Ritchie Kotzen himself.

I've dug Flying Colors for awhile!
And while we're talking Ritchie Kotzen, let's put this out there.

Today was an obscure British "Nirvana Jr." from the 90s called "Fretblanket" - and not even their semi-hit from 1997 called "Into The Ocean" I was actually listening to their first album, "Junkfuel".
They were like if Bush didn't suck. Same raspy "Mike Ness-with-better-melodic-capability" vocals, but better songs, bigger hooks and better playing, in my opinion.

From the examples I could find they sound pretty good! Two albums. I may have to consider getting 'em. I love this comment about Junkfuel on Amazon: "A great CD nobody bought." LOL.

Dude is still completely crazy good.
Release the fucking fury!!! ;D
Is that fretboard scalloped or just a trick of the lights? I know Blackmore prefers a scalloped fretboard.
It's funny how that video is entitled "How to play fast" and yet it doesn't say anything at all about how to play fast (Petrucci's has a much better DVD on this). That said, there's one thing that both Yngwie and Guthrie have touched on. Use your ears, if it sounds good, it IS good. :)
Yngwie definitely uses scalloped fingerboards.
Now if only playing fast was a worthwhile exercise in making music that actually sounds good! ::)
You don't think Yngwie's music is good?
DreamTheaterRules — Mar 14, 2014You don't think Yngwie's music is good?
I like it in small amounts just like every other guitarist that prefers speed over tunes you want to listen to. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of Yngwie's work, but I listen to a little bit here and there and it's just the same stuff after a bit. Then I go and listen to other more musical artists and end up listening to an album multiple times before moving on.
It's good music for lonely teenagers and the J-o-e-y D-a-h-l-i-a's of the world to dream of playing, but not stuff for most people who really enjoy music.
I think Yngwie is as dazzling a player as he is stunningly boring as a composer. Musically I feel as though he pretty much said everything he was going to say on "Rising Force" - everything since has been a retread of that. He's the AC/DC of shredders.
So if you like that one song he's composed, you'll love his oeuvre, much in the same way I love AC/DC because their one song they write over and over again is AWESOME.
I do always love hearing YJM's vibrato, though. It's so delightfully violin-like.

DreamTheaterRules — Mar 14, 2014You don't think Yngwie's music is good?
He's technically amazing... I love his tone, outstanding, and he's got killer vibrato. His music is practically unlistenable.
I listen to one album at a time with him. LOVE that album, the move on. Ironically, there is stuff by some of my all time favorite bands that I can't listen too. Genesis is an all time fav, but last week in this thread, I was reminded why I have the album but never even bothered buying the CD to And The Lamb Lies Down... Just not into it. I listened all the way through it last week and that will hold me for another 10 years. Meanwhile. Duke, ATTWT, Genesis, Abacab, Trick... all get regular play, and always the whole album, not just a song here and there.
More overlooked 70's prog!
Pinnacle - Assassin :)
(Had to take a break from the other stuff I've been listening to which included Magenta (from Norway as mentioned earlier), Lacrimosa, Danzig, Miranda Sex Garden, March Violets and Madder Mortem - all with a bit of a Gothic rock bend to them. :D )
Some Goth rock:
Faith and the Muse - Ankoku (I've been listening to several of their albums, but this appears to be the only full album up on YouBoob.)
Some newer prog:
The Reasoning - Awakening (their first album - others are good too)Some really nice guitar by Rick Miller:
Angel of My Soul (title song of the album) VERY little on YouBoob from this excellent Canadian musician. More can be found on one of his websites
HERE. His main influences were the Moody Blues and Pink Floyd.
:)
Here's a lost classic that should have been big made up of very talented studio musicians. Try to find the whole album (self-titled from 1970) if you can, here's one song:
Rumplestiltskin - Make Me Make You :)
Today listing to "Exit Stage Left" (and looking for a "remaster" on ebay since this is a classic album that is a horrible example of early digital recording. Hoping the remaster will actually sound decent because the concert is a classic!).
In the car, just now got to "H"

When I was in college, we far preferred the tape we made of this CD--we'd recorded the album to a standard Maxell XLIIS cassetter, and pushed the recording levels pretty high. The result was a lot fatter and more saturated than the CD, which sounded very thin and bright in comparison.
yes, thin, bright and lacked dynamics and realism. This is a live recording that sounds like a super flat studio recording. Live recordings can be a bit raw at times, (which is great) but this one is slick, flat, and just BLAH. Which sucks, because it is a GREAT album.
AIC today. SAP and Jar of Flies so far.
Afternoon update: Black Sabbath (1) and Paranoid. Too busy, find your own links. :P < Hey, it's Miley Ray Cirus!
Superdrag - Head Trip In Every Key - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2Fncb6umq8
One of the best albums of that year that Elektra just fucking dropped the ball on - apparently they were doing that a lot at the time, getting pissy with artists because they weren't writing poppy or hooky-enough music. I think four or five songs on the record could have worked as singles back in 1998, but apparently Elektra didn't think so and then basically didn't promote this at all.
Recorded at Sound City in Van Nuys, produced by the late, great Jerry Finn.

Yesterday:
The Cars - Move Like ThisTheir last album (although there is another by the remaining members that call themselves "The New Cars").
Today is a lot of live trance mixes because I'm programming and need to stay in the zone. ;)
Tomorrow I'll check out Superdrag (don't think I've heard that one). Howie's reminded me that I need to have an AIC day too (I had a couple of Sabbath days back when 13 came out). :)
Listened to Superdrag last night. Still can't remember who they remind me of! A friend that was over said she really liked them so I guess I'll have to put them on the "Albums to get" list. :)
Yesterday while working I went through Djam Karet's first five albums ("The Trip" posted earlier in this thread is their latest with about a dozen in-between) and one of Jason Becker's (Perpetual Burn - see my other thread in this forum about that).
Today's choices are still to be made. ;)
Lots of meetings and appointments at work have really restricted my music listening.
Today, Aerosmith Get Your Wings and Toys In The Attic
in the car.... I'm still in the "I's" ;D
Yesterday was Boston's latest Life, Love and Hope along with Djam Karet's next five albums. Today is looking like more Djam Karet, some Peter Gabriel and even a little Bryan Ferry. Been on the road and in a shop too much over the last few days covering for a friend who's out of town (the owner of the business). No radio in the new car... :(
How is the new Boston? I've looked for the CD the last two times we were out but didn't see it.
Sounds like the really old Boston (a good thing), except Tom evidently decided that a real drummer wasn't required (not a good thing). On the same good & bad theme, he added three songs that Bradley Delp sung before he committed suicide, but also added remixes of songs from Corporate America... Also, Tom actually sings on this album (a bit flat) and has a lead female singer as well (who is not flat :D ).
I liked it, but then I always was a fan of the original Boston stuff. Many are panning it as an underachievement when you consider it took him 11 years(!) to create.
Just found that YouBoob has a couple choices to hear the new Boston. The link below is without song-by-song commentary.

Another "on the road" day so very few tunes. I did listen to the newest Djam Karet (Regenerator 3017) - I really like most of their albums! I also listened to a lot of the Folk Years collection. It came on the TV as an infomercial so I looked to see if it was already on YouBoob and...
HERE IT IS!Lots of nostalgia in those songs.
Tomorrow is new Lacuna Coil (and probably some older albums as well). Then some Mike Oldfield plus that Peter Gabriel and Bryan Ferry I didn't get to yet. :)
Yesterday, Asia and Asia Alpha. Today, coming soon...
Ok, listening to the new Boston you put up a couple days ago. About half way through, and at this point, I wouldn't buy this. Which is disappointing considering how much I love old Boston.
He had 11(!) years to make the new album. I'd say he underachieved (but I'll also say I liked it better the second time I listened to it).
DreamTheaterRules — Apr 08, 2014Yesterday, Asia and Asia Alpha. Today, coming soon...
So only about five more "A" albums to go after that! ;D
