DM — May 15, 2014I listened to the Eloy - Colours. The link for the Eloy in your other post is the same link for the Carmen album.
Oops! Sorry about that.
I fixed the link and put it here too.
Just dug out Peter Frampton "Frampton comes alive". Bought this album when it first came out and t comes out again every 10 years or so :)
Yep, and there's also a Frampton Comes Alive II and a Frampton's Still Alive as well! :)

Yesterday I stumbled across Val Halen's 2012 Release - A Different Kind Of Truth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg5HIUU8QP8
I hadn't listened to it before. It had gotten some poo-poo reviews. I actually liked it. I thought it had a similar sound and vibe as the Old VH.
I stumbled on this today. Had never heard of them. You can certainly hear the Black Sabbath influence.

I had done a you tube search for 2011 full albums and saw it. Listed as stoner rock. LOL It's pretty good. That's a pretty good way to find new music.
That Freedom Hawk is awesome. Like Kyuss + Sabbath + Soundgarden. Not as heavy or sludgy as Kyuss, not as fast or groovy as Sabbath, and the singer sounds like a cross between Chris Cornell and Ozzy, but very listenable if you're a stoner rock fan as I am.
Damn! This is some good shit. :)
Been listening to them all yesterday and today.
Here's the album right before their excellent self-titled effort (which isn't on YouBoob apparently).
I'm checking out Metallica S&M as I post. Ahhh, the memories.... I can't remember the memories. Just the music. ;D
Can't even remember the drummers name but i use to really zone in on him. They had such strange beats or whatever and the drummer to me, was killer. Best part of their music by far, to me.
Here's a thought. Any of you had this happen? Sometimes, not like, real often.... I hear a band and for some reason, say, the drummer or drums just stand out to you. That happens to me and it's just weird.
I saw Eric Clapton live in Bham Al and he had a stand in drummer, or new drummer or something, not his usual... I don't think I heard Clapton playing the whole damn time. The dude was amazing. Kinda young guy, actually.
Today is going to be Marillion from old to new (16 albums) so this will probably be tomorrows tunage as well! :)
drums that catch my attention every time... Mitch Mitchell, Bonham, John Densmore (The Doors - the king of the well timed and appropriate cymbal IMO!), Larry Mullen (U2), Kirk Covington (drums on Scott Henderson's live album)... and others that aren't coming to mind immediately... heh.
oh, dude from The Police... he was badass! Stuart Copland? something like that.
anyways, yeah, I know what you mean - happens to me sometimes too.
one more... charger linked me to a jam at his studio with an outrageously good drummer. that was definitely a listening experience like you're talking about.
Been listening to a lot of Devin Townsend lately. Especially the live concert DVD, "The Retinal Circus".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBJ9U5m81PI
He's got a great stage presence. :)
"Be gay for the monkeys! It's a musical, how much gayer can you get?" ;D

Well, dude.... I want to see the damn link. ;D (from Charger)
I guess I could just be board with Eric Clapton, I've heard him so much. But when you go see a concert, EC, and your focus is on the drummer..... their is a problem. ;D
Thats kinda why I like to go see no name bands in small bars or whatever. They don't have a sound to live up to and can play music the way they want too. One of the coolest parts about seeing bands like that is to get their real early and watch them warm up. A lot of the time they will start messing around and bust into a really cool jam of some kind, no vocals. I really dig that stuff.
The only downside to that is much of the time the shit is way to loud for the size building, bar or whatever. And the mix often sucks ass. I would love to jump in and fix that shit sometimes. I would suck ass in a studio, but With a very little practice, I could mix a live sound better than some I've heard. And the thing is, if the sound sucks, they don't adjust during the performance.. I don't get that. It's obvious the sound is shit, fucking fix it. Damn vocal sound levels drowning out everything with entirely way to much reverb and stuff like that. Oh well. I've heard some great sound too, so it's all good I guess.
yeah, seems like a lot of people don't care about that stuff... people are just weird.
I suppose charger will link you to that jam if he's cool with it. otherwise, he'll probably ignore this whole conversation and let you forget about it. ;) ;D
Yesterday some Mick Ronson, Rush's Caress of Steel, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Muscle Shoal recordings.
Mick Ronson - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYfA1e-OGkY
I had forgotten just how much I love the Caress of Steel album. It kind of gets overshadowed by 2112, but I think equally as good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxUAzTvcoTQ
I had never listened to the Skynyrd MS album. The complete recordings predates their first (official) album, but the song versions and the sound is really good. Worth a listen if you haven't heard it.

I'm fine with it... I have no idea which particular jam you are talking about, there have probably been months of jams since then! Feel free to throw up a link if you have it. It's all public- http://www.toddridgway.com/ThursdayJam/ - we record 3-4 hours every week so there is a whole lot of crap and some great stuff.
I deleted the PM... hrm... you (charger) were playing bass, I think... if that helps. bah, I can't remember. sorry hook! check out those jams though, some pretty cool things happen in there. you won't like everything but so what? the sound quality is always superb.
Oh yeah, I think it was this:

iPad does zero justice to it... but yeah, I think that's the one!
Currently listening to the "Greatest Album in the World". LOL ;D Though, it is pretty damn good. Very impressive bass work by Lemmy. Pre- Motorhead. Wiki is the new linernotes. Interesting stuff.
I skipped over the Johnny Rotten. I don't think my 10 or 20 years is up yet. :D
Almost down with all the Hawkwind albums... Not sure what will follow next!
Looks like Howie took his ball and went home. Maybe once the second one drops he'll come back. :D
I just got through listening to about 30 2nd graders in a musical. My daughter was great, glad i was their. But jeeeeez man. You should have seen what a mess the hillbilly did to the sound. ;D (not me, another one.)
Stevie Ray Vaughn, this soundcheck is just pure gold.

I could listen to this stuff all day long....actually I usually do :)
Fleetwood Mac doing a pretty badass version of Rhiannon, from 1976.

I'm a total effects geek and a Billy Corgan fan, so I listened to this a couple times today. Billy's isolated guitar tracks from Cherub Rock, off the Siamese Dream album.

Excellent series of 6 videos showing the recording of a song. Also other great stuff on this youtube channel

Be sure to watch all 6 parts
and the full channel with tons of stuff https://www.youtube.com/user/jameslugo
After a couple of days listening to Weather Report, I'm back to Eloy - love this stuff! :)
Weather Report - This is This (Jazzy)
Eloy - Colours (Progressive)
(Just in case I haven't posted that Eloy link before.)
This guy, just brilliant in my book !

Liked his style on all three genres. Yngwie, then (? Insert a GOOD smooth jazz artist here), then what sounded a lot more like Knopfler than Country! :)
Rainbow Rising - Listening to the album now. I had forgotten what a great album that is, especially the track Stargazer... excellent stuff. I still have the original 12 inch album of this.
I got in the wifes car the other day and she had The Cars first album in the CD player. So, I listened to that , Candy-O and their newer album that was released in 2010.
I played the shit out of that Heartbeat City that came out in the latter 80's.
Here's another from around the same time that I wore the grooves out of.
Get The Knack

been re-appreciating The Doors lately. won't post a link since everyone knows them... heh.
Here's one For Charger. More Stoner Rock.

That's pretty good. Enjoying that at this very minute
Listening to coverdale/page at the moment. In particular, shake my tree and whisper a prayer for the dying - two excellent belters
Been listening to a lot of The Dirty Three. Check out "Cinder"-- I love this track with Cat Power singing (though Dirty Three is mostly instrumental). Somewhat unclassifiable genre-wise.

Yep, liked that one too! Still need to try Charger's link.
Right now I just started on all of Gentle Giant's albums (in chronological order). I'll post a link or two later! :)

Wow, I really like the track you linked to! Cat's voice reminds me of Bjork (without the bizarre, yet sometimes endearing, vocal artifacts) and Adele (with less range). And, no, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.
Of course, you've already alluded to the fact that they usually play instrumentals so I'll just have to check out a few more links. ;)
I did listen to the Dirty Three link above. Then I got side tracked and went and listened to some off Cat Power's newest - Sun. I did get back and listen to some of Cinder. I was floored by some of the sounds on that. There was one song with some odd snare work with the violin, maybe cello, because it sounded lower. Awesome stuff. I'll probably Finish that up today.
I did listen to the whole Coverdale / Page album. I had heard bits and pieces of it, but had never listened to the whole thing through. I dig Page, always have. Denny Carmassi does a fine job on the drums.
Well, It's Floodin' Down in Texas......... Been studying some SRV. I hadn't listened to SRV in ages. I got burnt on it.
I also listened to some early REO Speedwagon albums that I hadn't heard in a long time. I liked a lot of Gary Richrath's playing. They were the first band I ever saw live in 1975. Opened for Aerosmith.
I listened to several albums from that Stoner Rock link above. There are a few albums on the list of similars to the right. All are from the Smallstone Recordings label. I believe - Greenleaf was one. Good Stuff. There is a treasure trove of good stuff on that label. http://www.smallstone.com/
Yep, Greenleaf and Truckfighters. Both worth a listen. Both are 2014 releases.

A lot of Sweden bands there DM! :)
CraigBert — Jul 03, 2014A lot of Sweden bands there DM! :)
Yeah, I know. The Swedes deliver. :D Maybe a few more today. I started out listening to the first two albums from Gentle Giant. Pretty good tunage. Then I finished up the Dirty Three. Then I got back to my Small Stone Stuff. I listened to Sasquatch IV. I think Sheep had linked to some stuff from them before. Another was Gozu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irC9dP2zrpU
And a little token SRV in there as well. I had a full day in the shop. I can eat up some tunes. LOL
The playlist on the PC is still going through all of the Gentle Giant albums (almost done there), but today I needed to get a lot of things packed and moved out of my room so one of my iPOD/stereos has been going all day playing Plankton's albums - damn this is some good shit! :)
I don't see any full albums on YouBoob, but here's a playlist of 12 songs:

Today I'm going through the albums of Bill Nelson (the guitarist from BeBop Deluxe). Just perfect for today! :)
Here's a double-album of his:
Chance Encounters In The Garden Of Light
Sweden again.. :)
Moon Safari. Simple but not banal prog rock music. Here's the full album you can download from amazon at 0,69 Euro!

Haken (UK). Great "boy band"...considering how old I am!! :)
here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyFQAHc8oao
Listening to their last album:The Mountain! wow!!
I've got Visions and Aquarius from Haken, but you've actually found a band I don't have (Moon Safari). I'll definitely be checking them out soon. :)
(I still have a couple of days at least to go before I'm done with Bill Nelson's work - lol!)
Took a break from Bill Nelson and went through all of the albums by Alice Sweet Alice (a band that a SONAR forum member is the lead of). You can download their sampler album called singles for free to check them out. Their website is
http://www.alicesweetalice.com/I've since been listening to Moon Safari (I even went through the hell of being on Amazon Chat for twenty minutes as they figured out how I can pay for the downloads - they have "County" but not "State" on their checkout. Anyway, I now have them and have literally just been laying on the bed listening for the last several hours - very good and relaxing! :)
Definitely enjoyed Moon Safari and then went through my Haken albums (including just getting their latest, Mountain which is playing now at 3:20am ;) ).
I think I may go back to some Khan and Rare Bird before returning to the Bill Nelson albums.
It's too bad Howie took his ball and went home, he might have learned that there are other great bands out there than what the members of other forums tell him is good. ;)
Sympathy?? I remember it..in black & white!! :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zihtnl7zIys
Heh, yep! That's on their first album. :)
